As you run down the field with the ball, there seems to be nothing in the way of you scoring a goal. Or so you think, Evie Schneider comes out of nowhere and blocks your shot before you can score. Helping save all the shots, junior Evie Schneider had an amazing first year as the field hockey goalie.
She wasn’t originally planning on playing on the field hockey team at all. Her friend influenced her to join, encouraging her time and time again.
“Ironically, my best friend reached out to me and said if you play I will give you $50. It was on a random Tuesday night when she called me. I never got my $50,” Schnieder said.
Though it may be her first year playing as a goalie, Schneider has been playing field hockey since her sophomore year and plans on continuing through her high school years. She wasn’t planning on becoming the goalie, but having their goalie graduate she was the only one with the experience to take the position.
“I didn’t play at all my freshman year, but during my sophomore year I played on the field, but I would also practice as the backup goalie, and that’s how I got my position today,” Schneider said.
She works hard to improve her abilities as a goalie due to being new to the position and practices how to be the best for the team. Coach Abbie helps Schneider to specifically hone in on her skills and push her to her limit.
“I feel there has been such a big improvement not just in my performance but the whole team as well. Having coaches and teammates that support me and work with me so well helps me keep consistent in what I do and not give up,” Schneider said.
Evie Schnieder puts her all into what she does whether it’s at the goal or being the best teammate to others. She is going to continue working hard on her consistency to play her best and not give up on herself mid-game.
