As the football season comes to an end, the West Forsyth Varsity Football team is proudly putting a new conference championship on the banner. Six years later, they stand alone once again. It brings together the hard work of the players and the coaches to revive the pride in the village.
The spirit behind the victory of the season can not leave the players. We saw many outstanding performances from many of our student-athletes this season.
“My favorite moments this season were winning the conference and catching a pick-six versus Reynolds,” junior linebacker Kam Higgins said.
Currently, West has an overall record of 8-2, a conference record of 5-0, ranking 1st in the conference and 10th in the North Carolina state rankings. The players are especially proud of bringing back the pride from East Forsyth High School.
“Beating East, everybody winning, everybody feels like they know we have had many games that we could not beat them since 2019,” senior edge rusher Daviel Eldridge said
Backing off from the overall team, players had personal highlights from the games. These highlights lead to the success of titans.
“I caught three pick-sixes vs. Reynolds, so that was good. Another good moment was beating East Forsyth in overtime and storming the field,” junior defensive back Joziah Nicholson said.
While having personal highlights, teamwork is also the key to victory. Lots of players even work on off-season training.
“I feel pretty great. We worked hard in the off-season. I feel like we deserved it,” Higgins said.
Both players credited teamwork as the main factor in Titans success in personal work.
“I feel like we had a lot of good team wins, playing as a good team,” Nicholson said.
Looking ahead to the state championship, the players have a clear mindset with goals, confidence and remaining things one step at a time. And ready to bring back pride once again.
“I feel great, I feel like we have a great team, I feel like we have a great unit. I feel like we stay composed, stay focused on the goals, on the main thing and I feel we can go to the state and win,” senior offensive lineman Kanari Shoulars said.
After securing last week’s state playoff victory against Northwest Guilford High School, the Titans turn their focus toward this Friday. With their high confidence and pride, they are ready to go on to the next game.
