The West Forsyth Titans Varsity basketball team has been off to an explosive start this season, coming out with a 24-0. Not to mention, the team won the Frank Spencer tournament, a tournament that they hadn’t won in years, which was another huge accomplishment for the team. None of this would have been possible without the key addition of junior point guard Kamauri Manuel, who has made himself right at home and has blended in extremely well with the team. Averaging 12.9 points per game with 6.1 assists and almost 3 steals per game. He’s an amazing player on and off the ball, becoming a staple in West’s identity.
With The Titans being one of the best teams in the state, with a ranking of 10, players on the team have certain roles to fulfill and complete to keep this status. For many, Manuel could be considered a two-way play but Manuel himself, however, says that he prides himself on defense. It’s easy to see why this is, with his stats being able to back up this claim.

“I mean, we get stops on defense, and with that, you’re able to change the whole game and score more points. It’s one of the most important parts of any basketball game,” Manuel said.
None of this would be possible, however, without the help of his team, and Manuel recognizes this. He speaks on how the team works together and betters each other, pulling each other up for the best results.
“We’ve been working out pretty good this year, everyone’s getting along together, it’s like one big family again, and we’re able to work well together and perform. It’s more like a family, we do a lot of stuff together, we go eat together, games together, and the parents are a big impact too,” Manuel said.
With the team being this close throughout the season, through all the wins, there are bound to be special moments scattered throughout. One of these special moments involved lots of teamwork and support from each other, not just hours of practice.
“Winning MVP at the Frank Spencer was the most memorable moment for me this season. I don’t think I should have won it, but it was good and a blessing to win it,” Manuel said.
Special moments like this make you strive to be better and become the best version of yourself in the sport. This is no different for Manuel, who also has big goals for himself before the end of the season.
“Definitely winning player of the year, or if not getting all conference or all tournament team would definitely be my goal for the end of this season,” Manuel said.
From all the special moments to camaraderie between Manuel and the West basketball team, it’s easy to see how this season has been so great for the Titans. Not to mention, the team wouldn’t be in the same place if not for Manuel’s hard work and commitment to the sport and team. So to the basketball team and Manuel, we wish them good luck for the playoffs and make West proud.

This young man is an awesome person on and off the court. I’ve watched him play and his overall game is the best in the state. I am not sure why his name isn’t better nationally than it. is. Hands down should win player of the year and be in contention for North Carolina Gatorade player of the year.
