President Donald Trump intends to have a UFC fight at The White House on June 14th for his 80th birthday and Independence Day. You might be wondering where you would hold a UFC fight at the White House, and the answer is a 100,000 seat stadium of course. Trump wants to make a stadium from scratch within the next couple of months to hold the UFC event on the south lawn, which is really the only place at the White House where it could be held. The location is one thing that most people are getting angry about, since there are so many places in D.C. to actually place it outside of the White House grounds. A good thing about this, however, is that taxpayers won’t be paying for this; Dana White the CEO of the UFC said that he would be paying for it, which is the fair thing to do.
They haven’t even started building the stadium yet, so it will be very impressive if they can pull it off in the next four months. Now, although it will be a 100,000-seat stadium, they are really only going to have 5-17,000 spectators going to be there, since the fights aren’t going to be open to the public. Therefore, it might not even be worth making the stadium if only these people will be able to be there. I will say that a 100,000 seat stadium open to the public would be cool, but if not, then what’s the point?
The UFC has six fights planned for that day, the headline fight being between Ilia Topuria and
Justin Gaethje. The first fight is going to be a featherweight competition between Diego Lopes and Steve Garcia, followed by a middleweight fight between Bo Nickal and Kyle Daukaus. Mauricio Ruffy, Michael Chandler, Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane will also be featured, but I’m most excited for the bantamweight fight between Sean O’Malley and Aiemann Zahabi. Last but not least, the main event between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje will take place, which is going to be a great fight because it is the last fight. The only reason why it’s the best fight is because Justin Gaethje won the interim title while Ilia Topuria still has the belt so whoever wins this fight wins the belt and the championship.
I think we should talk about the actual stadium. Even if it’s not built by the day of the UFC fight, Trump still wants it built for future events. I think that a stadium at The White House would be an awesome experience for a fun tourist destination in Washington but I still don’t think it is a good idea. Now I can only assume that they will take every precaution for the event but even then you just never know what people are willing to do.
The only people who are going to the actual UFC fight will be hand-picked by the president, which, if this is supposed to be a one-in-a-million show, I feel like the public should be able to go and watch it too. It will be live streamed, but even then it’s just not the same.
I doubt that most people will even want a UFC fight at The White House for the United States’ 250th birthday. Although it is an interesting idea, it’s random and doesn’t mean anything to America. This UFC fight is probably going to be one of the most viewed UFC fights in history. Now I have never seen a single UFC fight but I will be watching this one just because it sounds like it’s going to be a generational match, or should be with all the controversy-fueled hassle behind it.
