The girls’ tennis team welcomes many new faces on their roster this year, with over half of the team being freshmen. There have been some difficulties, although it is nothing the team couldn’t overcome. The team faced some hardships with many injuries affecting the team, plus a key starter being out, Rickert had no choice but to look towards the freshmen to provide some help for the team.
“The freshmen got thrown into the matches right away, and they were a huge help to us. The team has worked well with each other and has developed many new friendships along the way. We lost our best player who was conference MVP last year, as well as two other starters. We had a young team with a lot of freshmen and they were a huge help this season. You want to have fun, do the best you can, and focus on the positive,” coach Jeff Rickert said.
The season was not quite what they wanted because of all the setbacks. It was much more challenging than they thought coming into the season.
“Our numbers were down, we were down three starters so the freshmen were able to come in and fill in those positions and they were huge for the team,” Rickert said.
It has been an action-packed season for the girls’ tennis team with many ups and downs, yet they were able to work together as a team to be better thanks to all the help from the newcomers.
