As spring blooms, prom season is quickly approaching. Local hotel ballrooms and high school gymnasiums are transforming into glamorous venues, marking the annual return of prom. Thousands of juniors and seniors are getting ready for this tradition and it will be some of their most memorable high school experiences.
Traditionally, prom is held in the Spring. Peak prom season runs from April to May, yet this year the Titans’ prom is being held on March 28th from 7-11 PM. Following the Titan tradition, it will be held at the Millennium Event Center in downtown Winston-Salem. This year’s prom theme was voted on in November by Titan students. Out of three themes, A night in Rio was favored by the prom committee and Titan students. This theme is inspired by a Rio carnival in Brazil, where you can see street parties, dancing, music and bold bright costumes. It brings vibrant energy, tropical decor and high-energy music.
Trending prom dress styles are bold, saturated colors with lots of details. Some of these styles include pearls, large bows, corset bodies, 3D florals and playful textures like feathers; colored with emerald green, sapphire blue and magenta. Popular dresses actually go with this year’s theme, as many Rio-style dresses are bold and extravagant.
The prom committee is in charge of decorating and planning prom details. The committee is made up of juniors, seniors, and the advisors Carla Lovely and Sara Church. They chose the theme options and once the theme A Night in Rio was chosen, they started planning the specifics. With prom quickly approaching, they are working hard to plan the last accessories, decorations and details.
Tickets started selling on March 19th and will end on March 26th during lunch periods. Tickets are being sold in the media center. Each ticket is $60 per person and any student who wishes to bring a guest who does not go to West must fill out a form located in the front office.
For students who don’t want to spend a fortune on prom attire, there will be free prom attire for any WSFCS student on March 7th, 21st and 28th between 9 AM and 12 PM at the Prom Shop in Winston-Salem. Students have been advised to park behind the building.
When planning their prom evenings, many students go out to eat beforehand. The following restaurants are some options for students that will be fitting. Ryan’s Steak Chops & Seafood is an upscale-casual steakhouse with a rustic atmosphere and is 7 minutes from the venue. Only being 6 minutes away from the venue, 1703 Restaurant & Catering is an elegant and cozy restaurant offering creative American and international cuisine. Fitting for large groups of people and being 3 minutes away from the venue, Jeffery Adams on Fourth is a contemporary eatery with a bold and innovative menu. Lastly, Fratelli’s Italian Steakhouse offers a delightful blend of Italian and steakhouse cuisine using the freshest ingredients and is 8 minutes from the Millennium Event Center.
If students have any questions, they can ask Mrs. Lovely or Mrs. Church.
