Es hora de Fiesta: Hispanic League starts Hispanic Heritage Month
While downtown, Winston-Salem has many different and interesting festivals for a variety of events like the autumnal equinox and LGBTQ pride. This month, they have opened their doors once again for another celebration, Hispanic Heritage Month. The Hispanic League brings sabor (flavor) to Winston-Salem with their Fiesta celebration on Sept. 14 from 11am to 7pm, marking their thirty-second festival this year.
The Hispanic League is a non-profit organization founded in 1992 in Winston-Salem to improve the quality of life for all of the Hispanic and Latino citizens of North Carolina. This organization provides service hours, education for Latino students with middle school achievers and scholarship programs and cultural events.
Their Fiesta is a free entry festival that has become a tradition in downtown Winston-Salem. This festival celebrates Hispanic heritage and culture, including fun activities and things along with a diversity of food from all over Latin America, face painting, crafts, dancing competition and an overall celebration of Latino culture.
Many brands, companies and radio stations will be sponsoring this festival such as Food Lion, Hanes, Novant Health, La Ley 101.1 FM and Mia Magazine. There will be brands and a variety of food trucks such as Kona Ice, Rincon Salvadoreno, Astro Dogs, Chugar Frappe, The Corner Venezuela and Mango Loco.
With the idea of this one-day celebration, it will bring those who are and aren’t Hispanic or Latino all together to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Additionally, it will be an opportunity to try new things and learn more about Latino and Hispanic culture.
