As the year begins to wind down and temperatures start to drop, a common tradition among students is to use their holiday break to hang out with their loved ones and enjoy a good movie. There are many films coming out for everyone to watch, but this year is full of a lot of sequels for the movies we already love, so it might be difficult to decide which one to go to. So, if you’re struggling to choose what to watch, here are the new movies for this winter.
Zootopia 2
In the previous movie, main characters Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde successfully arrest Officer Bellwether after she plots against making predatory animals savage with the night howler serum, a serum for the savage animals is created and former antagonist Nick joins the Zootopia Police Department (ZPD) as Judy’s partner in crime. The two continue their newfound friendship in “Zootopia 2,” after Zootopia receives its first snake, Gary De’Snake, in the mammal metropolis. This makes the animals scared of the reptile, leaving the rookie duo to go to new parts of the city to uncover the mystery as to why Gary was there. So if you’re interested in a high-stakes and investigative, yet comedic journey with a beloved bunny and fox, then you should consider watching “Zootopia 2,” which comes out in theaters Nov. 26, 2025.
Avatar: Fire and Ash
Following the first two iterations of this series, “Avatar” and “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Avatar: Fire and Ash” continues to follow Jake Sully and his family’s story after they find a new home in the Metkayina Clan. Shortly after the family settles into their new life, the Resources Development Administration (RDA) continues to track Sully and his family. Once the RDA finally finds where Sully has been hiding, Colonel Quaritch faces Sully and his allies in a final battle. The gruesome battle ultimately resulted in the death of Sully’s eldest son; Neteyam. The family’s grief for Neteyam’s death and the return of the RDA continues in the third movie as the family and Metkayina meet new clans of Na’vi from ashy and volcanic regions, showing the darker or more sinister side of the Na’vi. If you’ve already seen the previous movies or are interested in beautiful CGI visuals and thorough, heartfelt storytelling, you should consider watching “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” coming out to theaters on Dec. 19, 2025.
Wicked: For Good
“Wicked: For Good” is a movie adaptation of the second part of the “Wicked” musical, which is a prequel and reimagining of the original story and film “The Wizard of Oz,” from the Wicked Witch of the West’s perspective. The first part of the “Wicked” movie franchise showed two academic adversaries at Shiz University, Elphaba and Galinda (later Glinda), forming a friendship as Elphaba tried to fit in and see the Wizard of Oz to rid her of her green complexion. The two later find out that the wizard and her professor were actually working together to spy on all of Oz, needing Elphaba in order to complete their plans. The second part is going to focus on Glinda (Ginda the Good) and Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) reflecting on their actions five years after the events of the first part, putting their friendship to the test upon the arrival of Dorothy Gale from the original “Wizard of Oz” story. If you want to see the big-screen adaptation of one of the most well-known musicals, you should consider watching “Wicked: For Good” in theaters on Nov. 21, 2025.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
The original and sequel “Five Nights at Freddy’s” movies are based off a game series under the same name. In the first movie, night guard Mike Schmidt takes a shift at the abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, but after a life-threatening encounter with one of the animatronics, Mike had to make sure his little sister, Abby, was safe from any harm from them and the pizzeria’s serial killer, William Afton. Even though the serial killer was killed in the first movie, the sequel revolves around a secret Mike kept from Abby, that the animatronics are possessed by children who died in the pizzeria. As Abby spends more time with the animatronics (Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy), it slowly puts her and her brother into danger inside and out of the pizzeria, slowly revealing the dark secret to her alongside that. If you’re hoping to see the movie adaptation of a childhood game, see cameos of YouTubers who played the games, or are just looking for a suspenseful mystery, then you should consider watching “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” in theaters on Dec. 5, 2025.
This winter is going to be an exciting time for people to watch sequels to long-awaited and beloved films, so hopefully this helped you narrow your choice as to what you want to watch this season.
