As the end of the school year rolls around and summer kicks off in the Triad, many are looking for activities to fill their time with. Luckily, the city of Winston-Salem always has a lot of events planned that can be a fun time for everyone.
Triad Brews, Bats and Bites (June 3)
As Wake Forest University hosts the NCAA D1 Baseball Regional Tournament, visitors can also celebrate the best of the Triad’s food trucks all day at Wake’s very own Truist Field. Even though alcohol will also be served, the event as a whole is family-friendly, with many games such as cornhole available for all to play. The game, one of the regional semifinals, will start at 6 p.m. Although tickets to the game are sold out, you may be able to purchase them secondhand; either way, the event can be a fun way to celebrate, even if you can’t be at the game in person.
Festivals (Juneteenth – June 17; Pride – June 24)
The city of Winston-Salem often hosts day-long festivals, and the month of June is especially rich in these. The Juneteenth and Pride festivals are a great opportunity to celebrate the Black and LGBTQ+ communities respectively, listen to good music and enjoy a variety of vendors.
25th Annual Summer Music Series (June 17-Sept. 2)
Running every summer since 1998, the Summer Music Series or “Summer on Fourth” offers free concerts every Saturday night over the summer on Fourth Street, between Poplar and Spruce Street. Many of the concerts are jazz performances, featuring artists such as Ragan Whiteside and Jacob Webb. The concerts are a great way to unite the Winston-Salem community and help the downtown area grow.
Bookmarks Presents Chris Paul (June 22)
Winston-Salem’s signature bookstore, Bookmarks, hosts many events and author talks over the course of the year, but soon they will be hosting West Forsyth, Wake Forest and Phoenix Suns star Chris Paul at Wait Chapel to discuss his memoir, “Sixty-One: Lessons From Papa, On And Off The Court.” Tickets are $32 plus taxes and fees, and include a signed copy of Paul’s book.
No matter what you enjoy doing, Winston-Salem has an event for you. Check out their events calendar to learn more at https://www.visitwinstonsalem.com/events.
