Having over 2,000 students on campus means over 2,000 different minds that all do things differently. Many people represent themselves through clothing, which is seen visually when students attend school. When school and after-school activities are over we typically don’t know what students go home to, where they do their homework and things such as that. So why not take a deeper look into the rooms that are lived in by the Titans, and look at their favorite aspects they enjoy about their room.
Maggie Lee (Sophomore)

Maggie Lee’s room is anything but plain, with a little bit of random everywhere.

“My room fits me as a person because there are things everywhere, which I oddly like for some reason, it doesn’t stress me out because I know where everything is,” Lee said.

Lee’s room is full of things she has collected throughout her life that mean a lot to her.
“I find so much joy in my little knickknacks that I have had forever. I have always wanted to be a firefighter since I was little and on my dresser, I have all the things that make me remember what I want to do. It’s like a shrine. It includes a fire truck, a cup with a fire logo and a Lego fire truck.
Another thing I have had since I was little is a shelf of stuffed animals and Barbies. It reminds me of my childhood and I just can’t part with it. The self has been there since I was a kid and will stay there,” Lee said.

Besides her love for the fire department and childhood memories, Lee also has a love for books and loves to collect them.
“I have a very big pile of books on my floor, most of them I have read and some I haven’t gotten to yet, mainly because I forget about them since there mixed in with books I have read, which is one thing in my room I should change,” Lee said.
Lee has some very specific habits in her room that are a little different than others.
“Something I do that freaks most people out is I can’t sleep if my closet is shut. I have to know what is in there so having it open makes me feel a lot more comfortable, same for my windows. I have to have my windows open 24/7 no matter the temperature,” Lee said.
Sean Cooper (Junior)

Does the sport match the room? West Tennis player Sean Cooper’s room represents his love and challenges in his sport.

“Tennis is a big part of my personality and a lot of things regarding tennis are in my room. I express myself in my room by having my trophy shelf from all my tournaments from the past eight years and my broken racquets on the wall, which motivates me to keep going and reminds me to play hard and with a purpose,” Cooper said.

Besides having things from the sport he plays, his room also includes little things that make it unique.

“My room feels like my room because I have all my stuff in there, like my LED lights and my big bed. These things make me feel comfortable in my room and all the things in there I’ve had for a long time,” Cooper said.
Kaedyn Hatheway (Junior)

A room full of “Eras” and knickknacks is what makes Kaedyn Hatheway’s room, unlike others. Hatheway’s room is full of Taylor Swift memorabilia since she is a huge fan of hers.

“I represent myself in my room by having my favorite thing, a Taylor Swift cardboard cutout. It really shows my personality. I think everyone knows I’m crazy when they walk into my room and see Taylor in cardboard form,” Hatheway said.

Hatheway enjoys the smaller things she has added to her room throughout the time she has lived there.

“I think of my aesthetic as a big time-lapse of my life. My bed and specifically the mirror ball hanging on my vent makes my room feel like my room,” Hatheway said.
Another thing that is close to Hatheway’s heart is her reading chair where she reads her favorite books. Her chair is also loved by her friends who come over.

“My reading chair is so comfortable and is the highlight of comfort in my room. Everyone who comes into my room fights for that chair. One thing I love is when I have reading time with my best friend and she will sit in that chair while I lay in my bed,” Hatheway said.

Ben Tedder (Senior)

This isn’t your typical mojo dojo casa room, Ben Tedder’s room is home to many items that make his room a safe place that he has created for himself. Even though his room doesn’t quite fit his style, it still provides comfort.

“My room doesn’t really match my aesthetic, but I more or less strive to keep it as comfortable as possible by adding things that fit with who I am as a person. The constant sights of memories made in my hobbies or with my friends really helps make me feel comfortable in my room,” Tedder said.

Tedder has a strong love for music, which is made clear in his room.
“My favorite thing in my room would have to be my guitar, it always reminds me of the good times of hanging out and playing music with my friends, as well as being able to play [my guitar] for a while to destress. My guitar is a need in my room,” Tedder said.

Even though he does not have that many out-of-the-ordinary things for a room, Tedder still has items that characterize his room
“One thing I do is I usually just use LEDs or my computer to express myself in my room, whether that be with color or just a wallpaper,” Tedder said.

Understanding how students choose to personalize their rooms gives us a whole new perspective into their lives. We really can learn new things by taking a deeper look into a room that someone is in almost every day.
