One of the best parts of the holidays is all the bright, shining lights!

What’s your favorite thing about the holiday season? If you were asking me, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. There are so many things to look forward to when it comes to the holidays, yet there are still Grinches and Scrooges out there who try and make every bit of it seem so awful when in actuality there are so many things you can love about it. So, I’ve made a list of everything that I like about the holiday season for people who only like to think about the negatives to read.

1) Decorations
The decorations on the outside and inside of our houses never fail to bring a smile to my face, even if it is only something small and cheap you bought at Walmart. I mean, isn’t it nice seeing all the lights that go up as soon as the holiday season approaches? Not only are they pleasing to the eye, but it’s fun to see how festive and into the Christmas spirit people can be around this time of year.

2) Food
One thing I always look forward to is the food. My mouth waters just thinking about the mashed potatoes, the macaroni, the turkey, the casseroles, the rolls, the sweet potatoes; you get my point right? The holiday season brings with it delicious dinners. It could be a home-cooked meal or something you bought from a restaurant; even if you might have to awkwardly sit next to the cousin you haven’t talked to since last year, it is always nice to taste the food.

3) The Giving of Gifts
Personally, I love giving people gifts and picking out something I know they will enjoy, like the newest book in a series they like, or a piece of clothing that I think fits their style. It will never not be fun for me. Or even if it is something small like a card that I made because I can’t actually buy them anything but still want to give them something. Taking the time and giving someone something I made or got them so they know I care about them always feels good to do.

4) Family
We all have those relatives that we don’t want to be around, but how about the rest of the family? I like seeing the other branches of my family tree that I don’t often get to see. Sure, it gets awkward having to talk to certain relatives you want to avoid, but personally, I love seeing the majority of my family and talking about the recent occurrences in each other’s lives.

5) Movies and Cartoons
The movies and cartoons will forever be my all time favorite thing about the holiday season. You can’t tell me you don’t enjoy watching How The Grinch Stole Christmas, both the old 1966 cartoon and the 2000’s Jim Carrey version, along with the specials that came on all of the cartoons we used to watch. Still to this day, one of my favorite childhood memories was waking up and getting to drink hot chocolate while watching one of Spongebob’s Christmas specials with my family. The movies and cartoons are just the cherries on top of the whole holiday season.

Now the holiday season might, or definitely does, have its flaws, and not everyone has the same privileges and gets to enjoy the season as others do. But there are also things to backup that the average person is happier on holidays, according to www.bluezones.com, getting to spend time with friends and family is a refresher for most. And there are many things to appreciate during this time of year. Sadly, with this holiday season coming up, things might have to be a little different than they have been the previous years before. The holidays are tough and keep in mind that because of COVID-19 it could just be better to call them on Christmas than contribute to the spread, I only ask you please don’t forget we are still in the midst of a pandemic, so be safe while enjoying the season.
