Leading our varsity girls golf to victory is sophomore Sophia Perdue with her amazing drive on and off the course. Her recent personal best score of 38 not only shows her dedication, but her discipline and love for the game are driving forces behind her rapid improvement and impressive results. Her excellence does not go unseen among fellow teammates and coaches.
Golf runs deep in the Perdue’s blood. From an early age, she has watched her father and two sisters succeed as golfers. Purdue has developed a passion for the sport through observation, practice, and guidance.
“My sisters having the experience has definitely helped my skills as a golfer, especially with patience and discipline, they’ve taught me how to stay calm under pressure and to trust the process,” Perdue said.

Having grown up around golf Purdue understands that success doesn’t come overnight. Outside of school Purdue spends countless hours on her swing and working on the mental part of the game. Lucky for Purdue her commitment has been paying off. Not only is it being shown through her scores but through the leadership she shows her teammates.
“Sophia also makes an effort with her teammates, she has great sportsmanship that contributes to the team. She’s always cheering us on and genuinely celebrates everyone’s success.” junior Madison Adams said.
Purdue’s impact goes beyond the greens and fairways. Because of her upbeat attitude and infectious energy Purdue is someone her teammates could look up to not only for her scores but for the way she carries herself through competitions and practices.
“Her ability to balance competitive drive with kindness has made her a cornerstone of the team, even as an underclassman,” head golf coach Kevin McIntosh said.
But what makes Purdue even more impressive is her ability to balance her academics with sports. She enrolled in challenging courses that take serious focus and time management. Purdue really puts the “student” in “student athlete”.
“I take very challenging classes, but I have a good system that keeps me on track. It’s all about finding the right balance and making the most of the time I have outside of golf,” Perdue said.
Her strong organizational skills and determination help her stay on top of schoolwork, even during busy golf seasons. Both coaches and teachers have praised her ability to excel both in the classroom and on the course.
As the season keeps going, expectations for Purdue are rising not as just a player but as a leader on her team. With her grounded attitude, unwavering positivity, and strong work ethic, she’s helping set the tone for what success looks like on the team.
Whether she’s sinking a clutch putt or encouraging a teammate after a tough round, Sophia Perdue embodies the spirit of West Forsyth golf through her determination, discipline, and drive to lift others up along the way.
