For as far as the eye can see is a long line of hurdles and runners in front of you. The gun fires and out of nowhere, junior Max Leonard comes flying by at record speed destroying the competition. Leonard is no walk in the park to outrun. Leonard just recently broke the school record for the 55m Hurdles with a time of 7.94 seconds, at the Reindeer Classic on Dec. 20, 2024.
Leonard started running track in middle school, which has single-handedly contributed to his success on the track.
“I first started running in the 6th grade running cross country as well as track because I thought it would be fun and I would be good at it,” Leonard said.
When describing Leonard’s passion for track, one thing that is emphasized is his ability to block out all outside distractions and stress.
“I’d say running track is probably my biggest passion. It’s probably my biggest discipline and I just enjoy it, it’s a good distraction from everything else,” said Leonard.
Leonard has always been an exceptional runner, but his biggest moment as a Titan track runner was, “breaking the school record in the 55-meter hurdle and qualifying for states in the 55 hurdles this season,” said Leonard.
Leonard plans to participate in running track in college and has goals of hopefully being able to run a decathlon.
“I would like to run in college and compete in a decathlon,” said Leonard.
Leonard will be remembered for his accomplishments for the school and how much he has contributed to the team.
