Every year, teachers have the opportunity to nominate their fellow colleagues to be the Teacher of the Year. Amongst all educators that work at West Forsyth, one teacher tends to stand out. Occupational Course of Study (OCS) and special education teacher Heather Fix, has been awarded for this year’s Teacher of the Year award.
With all of her hard work and dedication of having this role of being a teacher, Fix was in shock when she discovered that she was selected for this position.
“It’s an amazing honor to be teacher of the year. It was very unexpected, three people asked me if they could nominate me and of course I said yes,” special education teacher Heather Fix said.
Despite working at West for only 5 years, this was not her first time being selected as teacher of the year. She was previously one at Carter High School- a high school for those in special education.
“I worked at Carter High School as a teacher assistant. Then I went from being an assistant into being an administrator. I did it all in the span of five years,” Heather Fix said.
Students recognized the effect that Fix has had on being the special education teacher, acknowledging her achievements throughout the school year.
“I enjoy having Mrs. Fix as a teacher, she is very nice. She helps me out a lot with math and biology, which is my favorite subject,” sophomore Isabella Lawless said.
With being awarded as Teacher of the Year, this acknowledges Fix’s dedication, passion and impact for both students and teachers. Although it may be unexpecting for Fix, she is still honored regardless of it.
“It is an absolute honor to be selected for this position,” Heather Fix said.
This award is an honor for any teacher who receives it, as it recognizes the hard work and dedication put into an educator’s job each day. Congratulations Mrs. Fix!
