Registration season is here and students are trying to figure out what classes to take for the following year. With so many different classes to register for, it is important to know the registration process and understand the best courses. Choosing from many selections such as AP classes and CTE courses will make it challenging for those registering.
Starting Feb. 4, the first step of the overall registration process will begin; students will be attending their homeroom class to get their registration forms to fill out and hand over to their counselor. Then on Feb. 5, students are required to enter those classes listed on their registration sheet onto PowerSchool.
“Please reach out to your counselor with questions and take registration seriously. When you pick your courses, we use your requests to help us build our overall schedule for the next school year, which is why schedule changes afterward can be so difficult,” school counselor MacKenzie Mick said.
Counselors are going to guide students through this process. During all math periods, the counselors will be taking students out of their classes and guiding them to their office to finalize their schedules from Feb. 10 to March 21.
“I feel stressed out about the fact that I’m doing my final schedule, I regret taking some classes throughout the previous years,” junior Brooklynn King said.
Whenever it comes to electives, most students tend to amp-it-up by taking some at Forsyth Tech or Career Center. Although there aren’t any new courses to take at West, there will be a new course added in the Career Center by the name of Explorations of Sustainable Development and Aviation Science and Engineering. Although this class may be new, there is a prerequisite of AP Earth and Environmental Science (APES) in order to take this class.
“I unfortunately won’t be taking the class next year because it will not fit in my schedule, but I think the class will be really interesting and students who have taken APES should consider registering to take a deeper look into the material,” junior Scarlett Arnaez said.
Due to the large variety of classes as well as Career Center and Forsyth Tech options, registration may be a daunting process, but there are counselors and educators available around campus to help.
