The West Forsyth Chorus department had its first ensemble concert on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Not to be confused with the earlier solo concert, which was for singular students and duets only. The three ensembles performing were beginners choir, mixed choir and concert choir.
The Beginner’s Chorus went first and performed, “Benedictus,” by Audrey Snyder, “Our Gift for You,” by Jerry Estes and “Cantaré Feliz” by Mary McDonald.
“So this was my very first concert for West Forsyth and I think it went very well. It was difficult because we are beginners but I think it all turned out well in the end,” senior Lavender Rogers said.
After the beginners choir mixed chorus took the stage and sang, “Cindy,” Arranged by Neil A. Johnson, “Merry Christmas Darling,” by Richard Carpenter and Frank Pooler, “Sactus,” by Sherri Porterfield, “The Storm King” by Marjorie Elliott and “Flying Free” by Don Besig.
“I think our concert went well. We were very together as a choir, we could have done better with our tone to keep the music the way it was intended to sound and we need to work on breath support,” junior Lucia Looz said
For the mixed choir’s “Flying Free” performance, senior Christian Tiddy helped pianist James Poplin with the accompaniment and played Djembe for the concert “Truth.”
“There’s plenty of things I could have cleaned up, it was a lot of fun, I thought the choirs sounded amazing and overall I think it went pretty well,” senior Christan Tiddy said.
Finally concert choir performed, “Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel” Arranged by Jacob Cook a yearly tradition performed by the concert choir, “The Bells” by Frank Ahrold, “Loch Lomond” by Jonathan Quick, “Sixteen Tons” sung by baritones, basses, and tenors arranged by Kirby Shaw “Truth” sung by sopranos and altos arranged Andrea Ramsey, “Dirait-on” by Morton Lauridsen and “I Can Tell the World” arranged by Moses Hogan.
“I feel like we did very good and we were very strong we did all of our dynamics really great, and we followed everything Mr. Cook showed us but we really need to work on vowels,” senior Zach Cassidy said
This concert is one of two ensemble concerts the choir is performing this year due to the changes in the chorus schedule. The next ensemble concert will be held at the APAC on April 17th, 2024.
