Halloween is one of the most popular and beloved holidays out of the entire year, especially by yours truly. It gives people a chance to disconnect from reality and become whoever or whatever they want to be. While Halloween is one of the three biggest holidays, it is constantly overshadowed by Christmas and the warmer days of fall. Before the holiday can truly be celebrated, stores start taking down their scary decorations and merchandise to promote Christmas. I’ve always had trouble getting into the Halloween spirit until the day or week of the holiday, so here are a couple of my favorite ways to help embrace the breeze of our beloved spooky season.
Dreadful Decor
Decorating your space to suit your tastes and personality is known to be a good way to improve your overall mood, but is also a great way to get in the holiday spirit. Spider webs, garlands and rear view mirror charms are fun ways you can give your car a scary look. Life-size skeletons are my personal favorite decorative item for the holiday. They can be used year-round and dressed up throughout the seasons while keeping you company during your daily life. If you haven’t received your license yet, you can add pins and keychains to your backpack or change your phone/computer background to stay in the Halloween spirit on the go.
Spooky Jams
Music is the best way to set your mood and vibe for the day. There are countless genres and subgenres of music to choose from, but you don’t have to only listen to the “Monster Mash” to get ready for Halloween. Erie-sounding music or songs with dark meanings are other options to avoid hearing the same typical Halloween songs over and over again.
Terrifying Treats
There are so many mouth-watering fall dessert ideas to try, and Pinterest is the perfect outlet to find recipes for desserts like ‘graveyard pudding’, apple pie cookies and spiderwebbed pretzels. You can use marshmallow cream to create spider webs on your desserts or decorate your cups, cookie-cut sandwiches into spooky shapes, use Halloween-themed food picks in your lunch or just store your treats in a holiday-specific box.
Creepy Closet
Wearing themed outfits is another option to really lure you into the holiday spirit. Dark makeup and clothes are a necessity for this time of year. Orange, red and purple are perfect hues to add in a pop of color to your look. Eyeliner will be one of the most helpful tools to create cute makeup looks such as bat or webbed liner designs. If you don’t like to go all out, earrings and other jewelry are another great option to show your spirit without being excessive.
While Halloween is a very popular holiday, it still doesn’t get the love it deserves, so go out there and spread that spooky spirit.
