Students wear orange to unite against bullies
Unity day, which is put on by the National Bullying Prevention Center (NBPC), is a day for businesses, schools, and anyone else who chooses to, to wear orange and stand up to bullying.
Unity day takes place on Oct. 24 in the United States and is the main event of anti-bullying month. The day has been recognized as a national holiday by the US since 2011.
The US ranks 14 in the world for bullying amongst 15 year olds, according to a study by Wendy M. Craig and Yossi Harel. According to the website “Stopbullying.gov”,One in four students say that they have been bullied. This website also states that adults are only notified 20-30 percent of the time a student is bullied.
Unity day helps to raise awareness of the under reported issue of bullying by bringing people together.
