Open since 1984, ARTWORKS is the longest-open cooperative gallery in Winston-Salem and over the years has showcased an abundance of local talent ranging from all kinds of different styles, including photography, colored pencil work, pottery, abstract, etc. ARTWORK`S has been on Trade-street showing local artists’ pieces, and every month they have new art to display. The founders wanted it to be a place for artists to show and sell their artwork while being an extremely supportive environment and community for everyone. From Sept 29 to Oct 26, they had their 40th anniversary gallery showing. Starting as an art show at Salem College in 1984, they eventually created their own gallery in 1990, making it a staple in the Winston-Salem art district.
At the celebration for the anniversary, which started on Oct 6, $40 mini art pieces will be sold and all profits from the art will go to funding the gallery and making sure it stays open.
On Oct 6 the opening reception and party was held at 2-4p.m. The party included a champagne toast at 2:30 p.m. and they will be displaying their 40th anniversary art pieces.
On the 3rd Friday of every month, Art Crush takes place on Trade street. Art Crush is a place for local artists to locally sell their art, it brings attraction for the galleries on trade street including ARTWORKS. On Oct 18 Art Crush occurred at this time during the anniversary. The gallery was open later than normal and had e $40 mini art pieces to be bought on display in the front of the gallery.
On Oct. 26 the anniversary will end with a closing party at the gallery that will run from 2-5pm to close off the event in honor of their forty years. There are no admission fees for this event and it will be open to the public.
