Reflecting on the struggles of last season, the girl’s field hockey team has high hopes and motivation for this season. This season, the girls came together and put their differences aside to prove they were stronger and better than previous years.
Sophomore Ruby Williams created strong bonds with multiple teammates and kept a positive mindset. Having a mindset, like Williams, is what keeps the team motivated and driven during struggles and hardships throughout the season.
“I like sitting next to Ruby on the bus. She is so funny and she always lifts me up and creates so much joy. During the game she always brings me up when I am down,” sophomore Madison Winn said.
The bond among teammates is extraordinary, almost like a family. This season, the team scored three times the amount of goals they had their previous season and after continuing to play with each other they have grown much closer and hope to further succeed as they grow their bond.
“We did a lot of team dinners and had team bonding activities before the football games, we have a group chat and constantly talk in it,” senior Mckinley Wall said.
The girl’s team participates in creating team playlists, collaborating about team snacks and creating stretching routines.
“I get ready for matches by locking in with the team playlist, it gets me hype,” Winn said.
All of this comes together to help the girls play better with one another and compete against their opponents as a fully functioning team, rather than a group of individual players.
“The hardest part about field hockey that most people wouldn’t expect is communication while on the field,” junior Mary Grace said.
Having friendship drives the girls to push each other to their limits, while still having a great season together. As they continue to improve on the field, their relationship grows simultaneously.
