Once you finally get to high school, you might have realized it’s nothing like the movies. Movies tend to emphasize the stereotypes, leaving perfect movie romances and everlasting friend groups to be a myth. With that being said, here’s how students view the fantasy compared to reality.
While watching the movies, students are led to believe bullying is an obstacle that is bound to occur in their day-to-day, even though they may never encounter it in real life.
“In my opinion, they are really inaccurate. The movies always talk about bullying and how it’s such a big deal, but when coming to school, I never see any bullying going on. I have not been seriously bullied since I’ve been here,” junior Madison Weidner said.
Even though some of these movies are filled with positivity, sometimes the real deal doesn’t live up to some student’s cheerful expectations.
“The movies are so happy, they are always dancing and singing, but this never happens here, ” sophomore Abby Foster said.
However, some movies are believed to portray the experience accurately.
“Stranger Things isn’t all about high school, but when they are in school, it shows exactly what it’s like,” freshman Charlie Dimock said.
Many people know about the basic high school stereotypes, like mean cheerleaders or the nerdy tech kids but most times students don’t conform to those cliche cliques.
“I feel like movies portray that everybody has their own clique. They have to stay within a certain group of people and you can’t hang out with anyone else,” junior Pray Meh said.
In many instances, the caricatures portrayed in these films give movie enjoyers a false notion of how certain people act.
“When I think of the stereotype I think of the dumb jocks and mean blonde girls. I totally disagree with this, not all jocks are dumb, or the blonde girls,” junior Abigail Munster said.
Although high school movies usually aren’t accurate compared to the real deal, they still are a great source of entertainment to everyone.
