As the days grow shorter and colder and the leaves lose their summer hues, it’s time for fall activities. With the arrival of this season, the state of North Carolina is quick to fill the calendar up with festive autumn events.
Harvest Fest
Hot off the heels of the annual 5k Mud Run, the Jerry Long Family YMCA will be hosting the Clemmons Farmers Market’s Harvest Fest. This gathering will be on Sept. 28 and will have more fall-themed fun than usual. For those looking to support local farmers and artisans, this is a fantastic spot for autumn shopping.
SCarowinds
As October looms in the near future, the famous Carowinds amusement park prepares for its annual haunting. SCarowinds is a yearly event in which the usually lighthearted park falls victim to the allure of the occult, gaining a demented darker side with ghosts and ghouls roaming the paths at night and distant screams echoing among the roller coasters. This event lasts from Sept. 13 to Oct. 27, taking place most weekend nights. Scarowinds includes haunted mazes, monster areas, themed concerts and other spooky sensations. Be aware that the majority of these attractions are designed to be frightening and personal discretion is advised. None of the events take place before 6pm.
Southern Charm at the Farm
For those who enjoy supporting small businesses and producers of homemade goods, then Southern Charm at the Farm is the place to be. On Sept. 28, at Tanglewood Park, hundreds of tents will be set up, each operated by a small business or family looking to sell their products. The majority of these goods will make one feel as though they were in the ultimate craft store, with items ranging from jewelry and home decor, to small furniture and cooking utensils. Whatever interests a person may have, there is something here for everyone.
Salem Band Fall Concert
For those who wish to spend their time whiling the hours away listening to their favorite bands, the Salem Band Fall Concert is the place to be. This ensemble of classical instrumentalists play all the old classics, from Journey and Toto to the Rolling Stones and Kansas. The free concert is Oct. 6, from 3:00 to 4:45 at Salem Academy. Don’t miss this opportunity to have a rockin’ good fall.
Lake Hickory Haunts
Another famous place of horror and hauntings is the Lake Hickory Haunts. This fiendish frenzy of jumpscares and terror opens its doors on Sept. 13 and will continue to claim souls until Nov. 2, operating almost every weekend night. There will be attractions to petrify even the bravest of warriors, from botanical monstrosities, to psychotic killers, and all that lies in between. If one intends to attend this spectacle, make sure to check for high blood pressure beforehand.
These are just a handful of the many events coming this season, and the rest are no less interesting. Hopefully there has been something here that would make for a great outing with friends, family night or fond memory. Fall is the season of harvest, so don’t miss the chance to harvest wonderful memories and unforgettable fun.
