Students now have the opportunity to have fun in the sun for a good cause at the Spring
Fling on May 11 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Clubs will provide interactive activities for kids in the community to help raise money for River Oaks Community Church.
The Student Government Association (SGA) has partnered with Chick-Fil-A’s Leadership Academy to host the event.
SGA member senior Marissa Vernon has been helping to plan a 5K and other activities.
“There should hopefully be a ton of people from the community there, and it should be a lot of fun. I personally help run the SGA booth and also help run the scavenger hunt for the younger kids,” Vernon said.
“Outside of the main event, which is the 5K race, there will be bounce houses, games, kid crafts, food trucks, a radio station will be there, and face painting,” SGA advisor Staci Smith said.
SGA is hosting a scavenger hunt, Titan Nimas is setting up a slime station, Girls Service Club will do fairy hair, Outdoor Club is providing fun outdoor games and Garden Club will have a station where people can participate in planting corn and beans.
Principal Kevin Spainhour decided to continue the partnership with Chick-fil-A since it was a big success last year.
“What we did last year with the Chick-fil-A impact project was a more in-house, dodgeball event. Part of what I was wanting to do is try to encourage the team to get outside of the district/campus,” Spainhour said.
The SGA hopes to provide school spirit and encourage student involvement.
“Chick-fil-A Leadership academy is charged to do an end of the year project that is community based. This gives those in SGA the opportunity to demonstrate some of the leadership skills that they’ve been learning,” Spainhour said.
Students are excited to be a part of the Spring Fling to give to River Oaks for all they provide to students such as parking spaces and cold drinks during hot days.
