All good things must come to an end. After months of fierce competition, the boys golf team wrapped up their season earlier this week. The team competed in about a dozen matches throughout the season, beginning back in March. Over such a condensed and strenuous season, head coach Kevin King feels that a lot of their success can be attributed to an all-around team effort.
“I think a big thing for us was how much the middle of our lineup was able to pick us up and carry us in some matches,” King said.
Ultimately, the team finished second overall in the Central Piedmont Conference and senior Hershal Walker earned CPC Player of the Year honors. Alongside him, junior Logan Garrison and sophomore Aiden Koontz were both named All-Conference.
“What really impressed me most about this group was how much they liked to work at golf each and every day. I think that was a big reason for the success they earned this year,” King said.
While the team’s hard-work was paying off, they were also working on developing high team chemistry and morale. The camaraderie this group built was what, above all else, made it a special team for all those involved.
“The best part of this season has been the practice rounds with the guys, just messing around and having lots of laughs,” junior Brady Kridel said.
Many years from now, when thinking back on this season, what they will remember most was how they sought to enjoy each little moment as the season went along.
“You remember every team for all sorts of reasons, but the biggest joy of this group was just sitting on the range, joking and practicing,” King said.
The team’s year came to a close with the last few Titans competing in regionals on Monday. The season’s end having dawned on them, the players and coaches will carry on with them the many fond memories they shared together.
