For the first time in the McIntosh coaching era, the Titan varsity baseball team has achieved something many teams can only dream of. They won the title of conference champions this season and are now considered three-peat champs.
Coming into the championship game, the Titans were on a three-game winning streak while the Glenn Bobcats rode in on a 10 game win streak, making for a high-level competition. The team didn’t let the Bobcats’ win streak get in their heads, and went into the game with as much confidence and energy as they could muster.
“We were very confident going into this game, because we’ve beaten Glenn before and we knew we could do it again. We also had faith that [pitcher] Greyson [Jones] would get the job done,” sophomore Mason Ridings said.
The team came out of the gates a little slow, but a 7-run 4th inning helped them take control in the game. They ultimately mercy ruled the Bobcats on a two run double from junior Parker Trexler, winning the game 15-5 in six innings.
“I was very proud of the way we played on Thursday, we knew what we needed to do going into the game and that’s exactly what we did,” junior Parker Trexler said.
Being under new leadership for the first time in 10 years is often a hard transition but, the team made it look nothing other than seamless. The boys went 21-6 this season, including wins against hometown rivals Reagan and Davie. This success had new head coach Kevin McIntosh pleased.
“The team has really impressed me this year with their hard work and dedication along with their 21 wins,” McIntosh said.
Seeded as No. 12, the Titans baseball team carried the confidence from this big win into the first round of state playoffs against No. 21 Hough where they won 6-3. They hope to continue advancing on in their matchup tonight at 7 p.m. against No. 28 Southeast Guilford.
