If your life is in chaos, it’s not because you’re a Virgo. If your boyfriend is cheating on you, it’s not because he’s a Taurus, and you’re delusional if you think so. Astrology signs can be used in various ways, such as determining someone’s personality type, horoscope and future endeavors. Although it may seem like innocent fun, distorting your personality on generalized traits is absurd, especially if they’re based off of something as uncontrollable as your birthdate or the movement of planetary objects.
Even though most people use zodiac signs primarily for entertainment, that doesn’t mean they are harmless. Googling what astrology signs align with your birthday and seeing what vague “strengths” and “weaknesses” you have can give you a stereotypical and inaccurate assumption about your personality. It also makes many people believe they need to exhibit the behaviors associated with their sign, even if that’s not their typical characteristics.
One major reason why people resonate with the aspects associated with zodiac signs is the lack of precision within the horoscopes. Astrologists blatantly claiming that someone is confident can be misleading. There is never a proven reason why signs are linked with certain personality traits. This ambiguity within astrology makes it easier for people to morph them into their nature, making them think they should act exactly like their sign and use it as an excuse for their actions.
Though people have their own, individual personalities, astrologers categorizing themselves with their signs makes them lose touch with their individuality, compelling them to think that all of their actions are associated with the fact that they were born on a certain day.
This absurdity doesn’t stop there, people incorporate their zodiac signs into their relationships, saying that cheating on their significant other was “such a Gemini thing to do.” This kind of mentality doesn’t get you anywhere, these people will constantly blame everything that happens on their zodiac, not taking any responsibility for their actions.
The idea of astrology has surpassed self-interest and has moved into the dating realm. The same people who try to embody these signs have deemed that since their love interest’s sign and theirs aren’t “compatible,” they convince themselves not to be attracted to them. It makes no sense to reject someone because of a category you put them in, all based on the day they were born.
The idea of astrology playing such a tremendous role in our day-to-day lives and how we view ourselves is concerning, yet many people participate in this bizarre pseudoscience.
