If you have a passion for literature or a knack for writing, the Creative Writing Club is the perfect setting. This club is a haven for all students, encouraging you to construct clever, innovative, and unique writing.
The Creative Writing Club was Jenni Romero-Monico’s aspiration from the beginning, as it first struck her in middle school. Her objective was to create an inviting club to benefit students as they immerse themselves in the art of writing.
“I knew I wanted to make a Creative Writing Club as soon as I saw the lack of one in the clubs they offer at West. There just wasn’t anything for writers,” Romero-Monico said.
If you step into the world of the Creative Writing Club, members and guests will be able to learn from their fellow club mates through workshops and other activities.
“We’re working on different prompts every week. I try to find prompts that cater to a plethora of different writing styles since we have a variety of different demographics of people,” Romero-Monico said.
Although Romero-Monico is the president of this club, she couldn’t do it alone. She inquired about the help of an English teacher, Jaela Marshall, to aid her. Marshall has assisted her in implementing the plans for the newly established club, including the prompts to incorporate a variety of distinct writing styles.
“For the most part, Jenni comes up with the prompts and emails them to me, then we will work together to present them in the club,” Marshall said.
Additionally, the Creative Writing Club has allowed students to convey their emotions through a system that usually isn’t taught in schools. This allows them to freely demonstrate their individuality through a much more lenient approach to writing.
“We give students an outlet for unique expression and personal reflection that the standard curriculum doesn’t always afford them,” Marshall said.
“It has inspired me because it’s a club solely dedicated to writing what you want. It gives me a chance to put my real feelings onto paper since I can’t voice them in most English classes,” sophomore Ari Jones said.
If you wish to improve your writing and unleash your creativity with like-minded students, the Creative Writing Club is the place to be. Feel free to swing by every Tuesday after school in room 1027 to embrace your uniqueness and explore your imagination alongside your fellow club mates.
