If you have put up your Christmas decorations before now, newsflash it was too soon. Now that Thanksgiving has come to a close it is perfectly acceptable to get started on putting that tree up. The jumble of holidays between October, November and December end up leading people in different directions. There are two types of people when it comes to Christmas: those who decorate and start the Christmas tunes as soon as the last trick or treater visits your door on Oct. 31, or those who wait until after Thanksgiving and celebrate the holidays in the proper order. Using November as prep time for Christmas is slightly understandable, but I will say I don’t think decorating for Christmas and Christmas music should start anywhere near Nov.1. There are some people out there that start baking holiday cookies and pulling out the festive pajamas, and I just don’t see the appeal. November has a holiday too, a holiday that some favor over Christmas.
November is a month I will happily dedicate to Thanksgiving, instead of giving Christmas another whole month. Putting up fall decor after taking down the spider webs and Halloween decorations is a fresh new start for the next holiday to come. I don’t believe you can start celebrating Christmas until all the leaves have fallen off the trees and that doesn’t happen until the middle or late November. The Thanksgiving turkey should be served without Christmas decor filling the house.
I am a firm believer in beginning the task of decorating for Christmas and getting into the holiday spirit that we need after Thanksgiving. There is nothing like setting up the tree, stringing up lights outside and filling the house with the smell of fresh baked cookies.
The fall to winter transition is different for everyone, but not everyone will make the transition in the same order and it has been Christmas light season already, now it’s time for me to get my start. Setting up for the holly, jolly holidays are for after Thanksgiving, and no sooner.
