If you have been on social media recently, you may have seen the overload of fall crafts on your feed and immediately felt influenced to try them. If you haven’t seen them, I’ve got you covered. Here is an overview of the most popular crafts and the materials you’ll need to create these “spooktacular” DIYS.
The Skeleton Candle:
There have been a few versions of this candle, the most popular being a skeleton “taking a bath.” Other versions I have seen include, a candle with bones in it and only a skeleton in the candle, this is the version I Opted to do since it is easier. I used a large cheap candle, a glass bowl, a mini skeleton that will fit in the bowl and a scent to add in. I started by fully melting the candle in a pot with water, which took about 20 minutes. Once it melted, I mixed the scent in. While wearing an oven mitt, I carefully poured it into the bowl, filling it halfway, then I placed the skeleton and wick from the old candle into the bowl. Next, I poured the remaining wax into the bowl. It took about 40 minutes to dry. This candle has so many versions that you could customize to your liking, the possibilities are wickedly endless.
Thrifted Ghost Painting
Grab your favorite fall coffee and hit the thrift store. All you need is a thrifted painting and paint supplies for this project. Once you find the painting you wish to paint over, start painting ghosts in whatever painting you choose. Some examples I have seen are townspeople painted into a town of ghosts and a mom with a baby transformed into a ghost family. For mine, I turned an empty bathroom pating into a spooky bath. There are plenty more examples on TikTok if you need help with ideas. For less artistic people, here’s an alternative. With the thrifted picture, instead of painting it with a paintbrush you can use paint markers (pack of eight, $9.95 At Walmart) which makes it easier and keeps things clean. This artwork can be used to spook up your home for many more Halloweens to come.
Painting a Pumpkin
This is a classic Halloween alternative to carving a pumpkin, all you need is a pumpkin and paint. For this project, you can be as creative or basic as you want. You can paint the whole thing, You could paint it to be a monster or a cat, or just add simple things like ghosts or tiny spiders. For even more details to add to your pumpkin, you can glue on eyes, ribbon, glitter and really anything that will go on a pumpkin to make it customizable to your liking.
Skeleton in a Cage
It’s time for an outdoor decoration craft. The materials needed for this are a cheap plastic skeleton, and two wire baskets, this is going to be a cage so make sure it will look like one when you pick your basket and that the skeleton fits inside. Lastly, you will need string. All you need to do is assemble it start by putting the skeleton in the basket and then tie the baskets on top of each other with the string “trapping” the skeleton. Finally, add some string to the basket and you have your final product to display in or outside your home.
All of these ideas are very simple and inexpensive crafts and are ideal for the day of Halloween so you can unwind before the long night.
