As the girls golf team steps up to the tee for the final match of the season, the seniors are one step closer to the end of their high school career. The focus now shifts to those going to regionals with potential for the state championship.
This season has been quite successful for the team as many of them have reached their goals of improving.
“I feel like I’ve improved most on my accuracy with my iron shots and hitting more greens,” senior Sally Toalson said.
Some of the girls may have less postseason experience than others, but as a team they have had multiple players compete in regional and state matches in previous years. This year the team has five girls heading to the regional match Oct. 23-24, all of them hoping for a shot to compete at states. Seniors Paige Sidney, Mackenzie Taylor and Sally Toalson, as well as juniors Sadie Mecham and Katherine Perdue are all hoping to continue their season at the state championships.
The returning players have helped the squad achieve significant success. This season, Sidney has demonstrated her leadership in a variety of ways, whether it be by encouraging or assisting her teammates during matches or supporting them during practices.
Her best performance came at a conference match when she shot five under par, tying a school record for a nine-hole round.
“I try to lead by example and communicate openly with my teammates. I motivate others by recognizing their efforts and providing positive feedback,” Sidney said.
In order to qualify for the state title for a third consecutive season, this team hopes to use their momentum they developed at the end of the regular season by performing well in the regional match.
