There’s no doubt that the most important aspect of being on a team are the connections you build with your teammates. A great example of this dynamic is the Titans Field Hockey team. Their roster consists of mainly juniors and seniors, making this a season culminating the friendships they’ve developed on and off the field in their years on JV. Those bonds are being put to the test as they hit the field together throughout the varsity level.
“We know that it’s okay if we lose as long as we still have goals for ourselves,” junior Zoey Krause said.
Despite not reaching the desired goal on the field, the team still takes every opportunity to have fun and enjoy being together, using the strength of their bond to help motivate them through the hardships.
“Being a part of the team is just the best part, we are like a family, the bus rides are fun and we go out together to have fun,” Krause said.
To the untrained eye, the season as a whole may not show progress thus far, but the opportunity for the younger players to learn from the varsity girls and improve their skills is something that carries heavy value and will serve the program well in the years to come.
“Being on JV has allowed me to see how my skills are different from theirs, like stickwork and other things so that I can use them to make me better,” sophomore Gabby Vestal said.
A difficult season can be hard for younger players to navigate but experienced players have had no trouble stepping up and helping teammates overcome challenges.
“Being a senior means I have to show initiative and help all the players understand their positions and encourage them to continue playing their best,” senior Jacqueline Dusart said.
For some teams, success is measured in wins and losses but the friendships that are made with teammates can be a better marker of success than anything else and for this year’s Field Hockey squad, that couldn’t be more true. The team has only one remaining home game this season, facing off against Page on Oct. 25th.
