Florida Gator and Utah Utes fans are sitting eagerly on their couches when all of a sudden
the screen goes dark, frustrating football fans across the country. The blackout on Aug. 31 was found to be caused by a feud between Disney and Spectrum being taken out on the fans. The blackout was unfair to consumers.
The timing of Disney’s blackout launch was poor, leaving 15 million Spectrum subscribers worldwide with no Spectrum Disney channels, news or sports streams.
This truly made me upset. I love Disney shows and I love watching football on ESPN, but when the blackout happened I wasn’t able to watch my favorite Disney shows with my baby brother.
Disney and Charter issued back-to-back public comments in which they blame one another for the blackout. In an ABC News article, Disney criticized Charter Communications for the annoyance its consumers are experiencing, essentially blaming Charter for the blackout and ruining many families Labor Day weekends. My family is really big on sports especially football. We always watch the games and enjoy some snacks while we watch.
“Disney deeply values its relationship with its viewers and is hopeful Charter is ready to have more conversations that will restore access to its content Spectrum customers as quickly as possible,” Disney said.
My favorite channel is Disney but we don’t have a lot of excellent free channels, I’m not a big fan of spectrum.
The companies made a mistake by starting the blackout, both the clients’ purchases and the sales will decline. By making plans in advance, Disney and Charter could have easily avoided the scenario. Disney was compelled to adhere to Charter’s policy, which permits carriers to increase prices excessively if customers can pay for more premium channels thereby reducing expenses.
They claimed that customers have been canceling cable TV as a result of broadcasters like Disney.
Why should people have to pay more? How would that make us not want to cancel our Spectrum TV subscription? Because I wouldn’t want to pay more for my subscription if I already had to pay for it then have to pay more for channels.Disney and Charter reached an agreement prior to the NFL season opening where they unveiled a multi-year distribution deal that will aim to enhance consumer value and maintain broadcast TV program experience.
The majority of Disney’s networks and stations will be made available immediately to Spectrum’s video consumers as part of the agreement. Spectrum subscribers will receive ESPN’s direct-to-consumer service, while Charter will offer various video packages at varying prices.
More prices for various video packages will make people not want to be a subscriber to Spectrum if they are going to make their subscribers pay more.
Disney+ Basic ad-support is available to Spectrum TV select subscribers; ESPN+ is available to Spectrum TV Select Plus subscribers.
The vast majority of Charter’s broadband-only customers will be able to acquire Disney’s direct-to-consumer services at retail prices because of the company’s enormous distribution capabilities.
Even though all of the offers seem fantastic, they don’t do anything to guarantee that customers won’t see any more blackouts. Deals are being offered in an effort to divert attention away from the fact that blackouts won’t happen again any time soon. To help prevent blackouts, protocols must be put in place, like comparing prices and, if a problem arises, talking about it and attempting to resolve it as soon as possible.
