For all Titans, it’s that time of year again; the moment to bring out the pom-poms and face paint. Homecoming is the week to go all out when it comes to school spirit. Events such as spirit week, the announcing of Homecoming court, and the pep rally bring people together not only as friends, but as a true school community.
Every year, spirit week themes are announced a week prior to homecoming. The themes for this year’s spirit week include Anything but a Backpack on Monday, Barbie/Neon on Tuesday, West Coast vs Wild West on Wednesday, Generation Day on Thursday and per usual, Green and Gold on Friday. Seeing students, teachers and staff show out for spirit week is always exciting. Students have mixed feelings about this year’s spirit week themes while others are happy and prefer this year’s themes over last years.
“The themes are really good for this year, but some themes are better than others. The Barbie/Neon theme, that one will be really cool to see at school,” sophomore Abigail Maynard said.
Who doesn’t like a good pep rally performance? Getting out of fourth period early to go to the football stadium, sit next to your friends and watch pure entertainment. Seeing teachers do stunts, cheerleaders and dancers perform or the club parade will keep students entertained for the game.
“I’m excited to see teachers get pied in the face and see the dance team perform a cool choreography like last year,” sophomore Seychelles Rotich said.
For this year’s homecoming game, the Titans will be playing against the Glenn Bobcats. This game will be held at the football stadium on Sept. 29, and the theme will be Green and Gold so make sure to show up in your Titan pride.
Freshmen will be attending homecoming this year, and most of them are either going for their friends, the experience or just for the fun of it. They are thrilled to be attending their first Homecoming game their first year in high school.
“It’s going to be a new experience for me and I hope it’s really great,” freshman Brielle Hinton said.
West Wackos are back at it again with making this homecoming far different than last years. The Wackos are excited to entertain for this year’s homecoming; they will keep the crowd hype and full of energy for the game.
“We’re encouraging everyone to really dress out the theme, more underclassmen to involve themselves in school spirit instead of it being a junior and senior dominated thing and reaching out on Instagram and Remind. We always try and have a chance to get the crowd hyped, we keep the crowd involved in the game and not just there to socialize, chant when we score and jump up and down,” senior West Wackos leader Emma Hanes said.
Homecoming court is when they announce who’s going to be Homecoming King, Queen, Prince and Princess. Students were told to vote for representatives from their grades. The winners will be announced during halftime at the game.
Homecoming is a time to come together as a school and have fun. From dressing up for spirit week to seeing who wins Homecoming court, this is one of the best opportunities for this year.
