Every year, our student section, dubbed the ‘West Wackos’, brings the energy and noise to the crowd game in and game out. This year is no different, with the Titans keeping spirits high at home, as well as on the road. Even though the season has just started, the new student leaders are excited about this year’s themes and events.
“Leading the student section to me means getting the biggest turnout possible to each game and making it the best it can be,” senior Ryan MacReynolds said.
The start of the football season comes with welcoming the class of 2027 to the student section. Some apprehension is expressed by the freshman class regarding the football season, however, most of the students show excitement for this new experience.
“I’m looking forward to being in the student section because it’s an opportunity for me to meet new people and I get to dress in theme every week,” freshman Madeline Dusart said.
On Friday nights, football players may not get to be in the student section, however, they do feel the effects of the crowd.
“The student section is really part of the game too, they bring the energy to the game and the hype up as well,” senior linebacker Davion Eldridge said.
The band is a huge part of games days as well, the wackos feed off of their music and the energy they bring. They play several familiar songs that everyone can sing along to and continue to keep it loud.
“My favorite part of game days is during the third quarter when the drumline goes out and livens up the crowd,” sophomore Julia Citro said.
West students with previous years of experience in the student section have a prior knowledge of the regular themes and routine of the game. Themes generally stay the same each year, meaning students know their favorites and when they will show their titan pride.
“My favorite theme is Hawaiian because of the bright colors, and it’s always the first game,” junior Josh Pendergrass said.
“The Wakos ask the students to show up to the games with lots of energy and represent our Titans well,” MacReynolds said.
