Lower Fields Score New Facility
For all of the athletes who are tired of using the porta-potties during practice, you’re in luck. The athletic department along with Lowder Construction is in the process of building a multi-functional facility for the lower fields.
The project broke ground in January and was expected to be completed by March. Due to setbacks, such as weather and other circumstances, the facility is now expected to be completed by the end of the school year. The facility includes locker rooms, public restrooms, a concession stand, second-level viewing, a game clock display and storage. It will be used by the soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey teams who use the lower fields for games and practices and will be open to spectators for the concession stand and restrooms.
Coaches and student-athletes are very excited to put the new facility to use.
“This project will benefit our school by creating a safer environment when weather issues come up and by adding a greater sense of ownership and to the perception of the school overall,” girls soccer coach Scott Bilton said.
Former football coach, Adrian Snow, is the one who first had the idea and got the ball rolling. Along with Snow, soccer coaches Jeffery Williams and Bilton have helped plan this project along with Gene Lowder, head of construction, who was a parent to a student who was in the soccer program for four years. After the project was introduced and approved by the school board, it had to be approved by the Village of Clemmons in order for construction to begin.
The overall reaction to the announcement of the facility has been positive from both players and spectators.
“I’m excited about the facility because on game days it will provide us with one space to get hyped up and ready,” junior Braeden Carter said.
With this being such an anticipated project, the staff is hoping to increase crowd size and ticket sales as well as get players pumped up for the game. The facility is bound to help players ‘kick off’ a good season.
