Skiing, skating tubing: Pick your winter break fun
Fun winter activities to enjoy this season
Everyone’s excited for winter break, and it’s nearly here. The most exciting thing about it is no school and lots of free time. The only question is: what are you going to do with all that time?
Ice Skating: Ice skating is both a fun winter activity with your friends and a comedy show if none of you are very good at it. Although there are no frozen ponds around North Carolina, you can still participate in the activity of roller skating on water by going to the Winston-Salem fairgrounds and the LJVM Annex.

Sporting Events: Hockey and basketball games are in season and there are games happening right here in North Carolina. If you’re looking to sit down and yell at people, check out the schedules for both sports.

Snow Tubing: If you want a thrill during your winter break, snow tubing is definitely for you. It’s like a water slide because you still use an innertube, but it involves a lot of snow. With baby-sized hills and steeper drops, snow tubing can be for the faint of heart and for the daredevil. However, the closest location, Hawksnest Tubing, is an hour and a half drive away.
Skiing: Another activity that can appeal to the adrenaline junkie and the faint-hearted is skiing. Sliding down a large mountain on two strips of wood can actually be really fun. There are numerous ski resorts in North Carolina, the largest being the Sugar Mountain Ski Resort. With 20 trails and several teaching programs, Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is a good way to pass the time.

Carriage Rides: You can ride your own one horse open sleigh this season with the Camel City Carriage Company. The company has been active since 2010 and does carriage rides in and around Winston-Salem. Now you can admire downtown Winston-Salem in holiday style.

Tanger Outlets: For all the shop-a-holics that didn’t get their fill during Black Friday, the Tanger Outlets are there for you. Tanger Outlets is an upgraded Hanes Mall with over 20 shopping outlets and name-brand stores that have great deals. You can make a fun trip out of it, if you don’t mind traveling to Blowing Rock or Burlington. But hey, you’ve got time.
