A Gift to the Audience: Upcoming fall play

This year’s fall play, “A Gift to Remember”, is a sentimental story, circling around the spirit of the holidays and the bond of strangers. The plot surrounds several unique people with different backstories, all trying to get home in time for the holidays. From a sailor who is about to propose to a software salesman trying to patch things up at home, the cultural blend of situations and backgrounds are the perfect ingredients for a touching holiday story.

Junior Evan Souza and senior Grayson Fulp act out a scene from “A Gift to Remember”. The performance took place Nov. 29, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

This diverse group of people find themselves stuck at a small depot in New Hampshire after their train is delayed because of weather. While it seems hard at first, they all start to get along and truly bond. By the end of the night they realize that the friendships they’ve made and stories they’ve told is a true gift that they will always remember.

Junior Evan Souza, who plays the role of the mysterious stationmaster, has been in every fall play since his freshman year. His views on the connection of the cast show just how important creating chemistry and character can be and how they each serve as a helpful tool for the portrayal of the story.

“It’s been a challenge for all of us to create characters that look and act ‘real’ for their surroundings, but the cast has become such a close family, which is exactly what is needed for this holiday play,” Souza said.

Containing only a 16-person cast, the fall play tends to be more selective than most school productions, having won Best Fall Play three consecutive times at the annual THETA (Twins city High school Excellence in Theater Arts) awards. If given the same honor this year, it would be the Drama Department’s fourth Best Fall Play award in a row.

Senior Chase Whitehurst is the male understudy in this production, and he has high hopes for the THETA award of Best Fall Play this year.

“I think this show is just generally beneficial to all of us as a cast. We have good days and we have bad days, but everything just makes us all closer and more tight-knit. We have already won Best Play three years in a row and these are some of the most talented people we’ve had on stage yet, so of course we’re gonna win again!” Whitehurst said.

The fall play will be shown on Nov. 29 and 30 at 7 p.m. as well as Dec. 1 at 2 p.m., So come out and get your $5 tickets in the PAC on show night and participate in the viewing of the promising story line coming from “A Gift to Remember”.
