New online calendar solves counseling conundrum

Student services has created an easy to use website to make appointments.

High school students have very hectic lives. It can be hard to fit in time to greet your friends, much less schedule a guidance appointment, especially if you’re dashing from the 300 to the 1000 building. Well fret no more over lost time, because counselor Jennifer Wyshner and the Student Services staff have established a new Google calendar for scheduling guidance appointments.

Located on the Student Services page of the West home website, the link for the calendar is readily available to students 24/7. Student Services conducted a survey on the effectiveness of their services at the end of last year, finding a commonality of a lack of time for scheduling in the seniors’ remarks (the focus group of the survey). Therefore, the counselors decided to establish the online calendar to remove some of the hassle.

“I think it’s cool because making appointments is much easier and less time consuming,” freshman Ellie Acree said.

Always striving to improve students’ lives and experiences at West, the counselors found the online option to be helpful in securing privacy as well.

“We also wanted to ensure that students could make an appointment with a higher level of confidentiality. Using the online sign-up allows for students to both make an appointment and share the reason why, without providing that information publicly. Confidentiality is a priority!Wyshner said.

Published online on Nov. 1 to kick off second quarter, the website can be accessed through any electronic device, including the newly available computers in Student Services. If students have any questions about the new site, they can email their counselor or stop by Student Services to ask.
